Blix now chairs the international Weapons of Mass Destruction Commission, based in Sweden, which issued a recent report that says, "While Israel, feeling under threat from Iran and others, is not likely to discard its nuclear-weapon capability except as part of a peace settlement, it could help to reduce tension, as is now asked of Iran, by joining Iran an all other states in the region in a commitment to suspend and renounce any fuel-cycle activities."

Blix stated, "We assume Israel has 200 nuclear warheads. Stop the work in Dimona [which is Israel's top secret nuclear weapons facility]." Blix said that it is not practical to demand that Israel disarm itself of nuclear weapons, but agreeing to suspend nuclear enrichment would be a step towards creating a "WMD free zone."

Israel has never agreed to even consider giving up its nuclear weapons, or to agree to a nuclear free zone.
