California Democratic Party Chairman Art Torres Addresses Franklin Roosevelt Legacy Club Meeting
August 30th, 2007 (LPAC)-- Art Torres, chairman of the California Democratic Party, told a meeting of the Franklin Roosevelt Legacy Club on Thursday evening, that he is committed to the principles of the New Deal. "I am an FDR Democrat! I am a JFK Democrat. And I am not a DLC Democrat!"
Torres' remarks followed an introduction by Quincy O'Neal, recently elected vice-chair of the California Democratic African-American Caucus and active youth organizer with the LaRouche Political Action Committee. O'Neal read a quote by Franklin Roosevelt, in which the former president explains that the roots of the New Deal lies in the principle of the General Welfare expressed in the Preamble of the Constitution.
In response to a question from a young man who had just returned from a summer of organizing with the LaRouche PAC for the impeachment of Dick Cheney in Washington D.C., Torres told the audience of more than 50, that there are not presently the votes to pass an impeachment. He did say, however, that we should continue to organize for this issue."
The LaRouche Youth Movement in California, and nationally, will continue to fight not only for the impeachment of Dick Cheney, but also to bring the legacy of Franklin Roosevelt back into the hearts and minds of the political leadership of the United States, so that they may act now, as he did then, in the face of the looming social crisis of a tidal wave of home foreclosures and the collapse of our nation's banking system.
